How we calculate this

We start from your current fuel economy and apply the average gain we've measured for your engine, scaled for how you drive. Towing and heavy hauling see smaller percentage gains than highway cruising.

DEF use tracks fuel burned. A healthy SCR system doses DEF at roughly 2 to 3 percent of diesel volume, so burning less diesel means buying less DEF. We use of fuel volume.

Diesel prices are the U.S. Energy Information Administration's weekly regional averages. They move weekly, so a longer look-ahead is more sensitive to where prices go next.
