This guide walks through installing and verifying a CSP5 switch. Read through the whole thing once before you start — the washer position and hole count depend on how many tunes your setup uses.
Plug In the Switch
Connect the switch to the device. As soon as it's plugged in, it will blink out its firmware version using a series of long and short flashes.
Confirm Tune Selection
Turn the key on and switch tunes. The switch will blink back the number of the tune you just selected, confirming it registered the change.
Test Every Position
Cycle through all the switch positions and confirm each one blinks back the matching tune number. If every position checks out, the switch is functioning correctly.
That usually means you're running a two- or four-tune setup rather than five. If so, follow the washer-repositioning instructions in Step 5 below before continuing.
Mount the Switch
Once you've confirmed the switch is working correctly, go ahead and finish the physical install.
If you're not using a mounting bracket, the install requires drilling two holes — one small, one large. To skip the small hole, cut off the anti-rotation pin instead of drilling for it.
Never attempt to flash your ECM while the CSPS pass-through switch is still plugged into the OBD-II port.
After the wire is routed and before the switch goes in, use the included tie wrap to secure the cable's black jacket to the switch, using the small slot in the corner of the PCB. This keeps the wires from being pulled out of the connector, and keeps the connector itself from being pulled free.
Position the Washer
The switch includes a nut and two washers. The smooth washer needs to stay on the bottom, with its tab seated in hole number five.*
- Turn the switch all the way counterclockwise.
- Reseat the washer with the tab back in hole number five.
- Confirm the switch turns exactly four clicks clockwise from that position.
- If it doesn't land on exactly four clicks, turn it back fully counterclockwise, reposition the pin, and try again.
*Running a CSP2 or CSP4 tune instead of CSP5? Follow the same steps above, but seat the tab in hole number two or four rather than hole number five.
Bypass Cable Requirements
You'll need a Cummins Bypass Cable both to flash the ECM and to operate the CSP5 switch.
A bypass cable may also be required for these platforms if the security module fails to authenticate.
