Important: Read all 14 steps before making modifications to your truck.
Here’s the 14-step process for unlocking and tuning your L5P ECM:
Check Emissions: Ensure all emissions systems are functioning with no errors and the DEF level is adequate. For 2017-2019 models, confirm soot levels are below 70%.
Download Software: Install the latest VCM Suite BETA software on your laptop and verify it’s up to date.
Connect MPVI3: Plug the MPVI3 into your laptop and open VCM Scanner.
Save Vehicle Info: While the factory ECM is installed, save an info log.
Start ECM Swap: Initiate the ECM swap in VCM Scanner (Vehicle > Controls and Special Functions > Replace ECM).
Install New ECM: When prompted, disconnect the battery grounds, then install the new ECM. Be careful with the connectors.
Complete Swap: Finalize the ECM swap in VCM Scanner.
Download ECM File: Save the .hpt read file by selecting "Read Entire" under the ECM section.
Optional TCM Replacement: If replacing the TCM, follow steps 5-8 and send both ECM and TCM files.
Send Files to Dynamic Diesels: Email the info logs, VIN, order number, and read file to support@dynamicdiesels.com
Reinstall Factory ECM: Temporarily reinstall the factory ECM to use the truck while awaiting the tune.
Install New ECM and Tune: Once the tune is ready, reinstall the new ECM and load the tune file in VCM Editor.
Crank Relearn: Perform the crank relearn process using VCM Scanner after loading the tune.
Remove Emissions and Final Steps: Disconnect the battery again, remove emissions equipment, reconnect the battery, and ensure all connections are secured with dielectric grease.
This short process ensures a seamless L5P ECM unlock and tuning experience.
